My name is Julia, & I am a freediving instructor, surfer, teacher, veteran ocean lifeguard, and U.C. Santa Barbara Environmental Studies alumni, with a tremendous enthusiasm for our oceans & planet.

Jules of the Sea began with a striking realization in my college education: that while everyday, I was empowered to think critically about the climate crisis, environmental justice, and just, equitable development, these deeper, critical imaginings weren’t accessible to the general public.

Ecology, environmental justice, regenerative development, interconnection & intersectionality, systems thinking — it felt like revolutionary ideas had been shed upon me, & I was filled with understanding & hope. This website began as an attempt to share environmental science education with the world, & has evolved into a platform for my freediving courses in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.

I’ve been privileged to learn, travel overseas, & navigate the tumultuous path that is redefining our relationship to the planet & each other — as an educator & freediving instructor, this is my dream to share it all.
